Postcards from the Future
Take on our 12-Day Take an Art Break Mini Challenge inspired by hope, connection, and imagination.
Through four simple art breaks, participants will create Postcards from Possibility – small artworks that speak to healing, kindness, community, and the future we are dreaming into being. You can even use real postcards as your base, collaging, drawing, or painting directly over them.
Each art break invites you to create one postcard-sized artwork. On the back, write a message as if it is being sent from the future – offering encouragement, vision, and wisdom for today.
Small art.
Big intention.
A new cycle begins with one creative moment at a time.
Art Break 1: A Postcard to Yourself
Welcoming Personal Renewal
Create a postcard from your future self. The new year is a powerful moment to reflect on growth and open the door to fresh beginnings.
Imagine:
• What wisdom would your future self share with you?
• What encouragement would they offer as you step into this new chapter?
• What does your healed, joyful, and thriving life look like?
On the back, begin your message with: “Greetings from your beautiful future…”
This art break honors self-compassion, resilience, and personal transformation.
Art Break 2: A Postcard to Someone Else
Sharing Good Fortune & Kindness
New year traditions often include offering blessings and well wishes to others.
Create a postcard for:
• A friend
• A loved one
• A mentor or teacher
• A neighbor
• Or a stranger who may need encouragement
Imagine sending them a message from a future where they are supported, safe, and flourishing.
Optional:
Mail it, gift it, or leave it somewhere for someone to discover — a small act of creative kindness that may brighten someone’s day.
Art Break 3: A Postcard to Your Community
Imagining Collective Harmony
Create a postcard from your dream community. Communities grow stronger when people feel seen, connected, and inspired to create together.
Imagine:
• What does a compassionate, connected neighborhood look like?
• How does creativity live in everyday life there?
• What does belonging feel like?
Write a message describing life in this future community — one where people gather, share stories, and celebrate creativity as part of daily living.
Art Break 4: A Postcard to the Earth
Honoring Renewal for Our Planet
Create a postcard from a healed and thriving planet. Many traditions celebrate balance and harmony with nature. This final art break invites reflection on our relationship with the Earth.
Imagine:
• Healthy oceans, forests, and wildlife
• Balanced relationships between humans and nature
• A world where creativity is valued as a daily practice for well-being
Write a message from the Earth or from future generations, thanking us for the care, creativity, and protection we offered.
How to Participate
Create four postcard-sized artworks anytime during the next 12-days. Materials can be simple and accessible (markers, watercolor, collage, crayons, or any medium you enjoy).
We encourage you to:
• Share postcards with friends or family
• Display them in homes, classrooms, or community spaces
• Post and inspire others to take an art break: #takeanartbreak #maketodayanartbreakday #artismoving
• Keep them as reminders of the future they are helping create
There is no right or wrong way to participate. Creativity is welcome in every form.
Why This Art Break Matters
Across cultures, the new year invites us to release the old, set intentions, and imagine what is possible.
Art allows us to visualize hope before it arrives. When we create images of healing, kindness, and connection, we begin planting seeds that grow into lived experience.
These small creative moments remind us that art is not separate from life — it is one of the ways we shape it.
